As we approach the end of May – we take a breath and take stock of what May has brought!
The first stage of the Renters’ Rights Act came in from 01 May, along with it, scores of new members and existing member queries. New stationery was released, and is continuously being updated to keep ahead of legislative requirements. Courses have been delivered in succession, and all those requiring a place have been accommodated. We continue to share information and keep our members updated, it’s so important to read our emails and the SWLA Bulletins – don’t get caught out! A final reminder to serve each tenant the Renters’ Rights Act Information Sheet if they had an existing tenancy as of 01 May 2026. YOU HAVE UNTIL 31 MAY 2026 TO SERVE THIS, OR RISK A £7,000.00 FINE FROM THE LOCAL AUTHORITY.
Steve Lees, SWLA President, was the Keynote Speaker at the Westminster Social Policy Forum Conference. The Seminar was titled ‘Next Steps for the Private Rented Sector in England’. Steve did a great job in presenting to the attendees. SWLA will always speak up for all members, with aims to make the PRS as fair as possible for landlords. We will never stop trying!
We held our April Speaker Meeting with a record number of members in attendance. Huge thanks to Wescotts Chartered Accountants and Stephen Fowler for presenting on Landlord Tax and the Renters’ Rights Act.
We held a Bitesize Webinar: ‘MTD – the Basics’. Thank you to Azets for presenting. A big subject for our members to get their heads around, and Azets really helped with this. If you missed it, please contact the SWLA office and we can send you a copy of the presentation slides.
We attended the Mid Devon landlord event in Cullompton. It was good to see members who live a little further afield to our office, and to liaise with other companies and associations in the PRS. Upton Barns was a beautiful venue and the event was brilliant.
