”
Great to be on BBC Politics South West yesterday discussing devolution and the impact of Labour’s budget on tenants.
Labour’s Renters’ Rights Act has already put landlords under pressure. Now the Chancellor’s latest tax hike risks driving up rents further, as the Office for Budget Responsibility has warned.
Of course tenants need proper protection, but the Government cannot ignore the impact its policies are having on landlords. I’ve previously raised concerns from members of the South West Landlords Association in Parliament, and those concerns are backed up by new research from the NRLA – National Residential Landlords Association showing that 26% of landlords surveyed had sold or were selling properties because of the Act.
With demand already high, fewer homes available to rent will only put further pressure on prices. Ultimately, it’s tenants who will pay the price for Labour’s decisions”
